Statement

Date: April 1, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. issued the following statement regarding the decision of mayors in East Orange, Irvington, Newark and Orange to combine their city's efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

"I have always said the people of New Jersey's 10th district represent the best in America and this proves it," said Congressman Payne, Jr. "Even though we have to social distance as people, we can come together as a community to fight this dreaded disease. I want to praise Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Tony Vauss of Irvington, Dwayne Warren of Orange, and Ted Green of East Orange for recognizing that they will have more success in a unified effort to battle this crisis than individual actions. I commend them for their leadership and invite other mayors and county leaders to work with them to keep all the residents of my district safe during these difficult times."
