Congressman Correa Votes Against FISA Reauthorization Bill Due To Lack Of Significant Reform

Today, Transportation & Maritime Security Subcommittee Chairman, Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA-46), issued the statement below regarding his opposition to H.R. 6172, the USA FREEDOM Reauthorization Act of 2020, which renews the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which has been misused to spy on Americans:

"Americans should never be asked to choose between their freedom and their security. I voted against today's bill because it did just that. As the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Transportation & Maritime Security Subcommittee, I know the threats our nation faces. Our national security professionals need broad tools, like FISA, to keep Americans safe; however, without reforms to protect the due process and Fourth Amendment rights of American citizens, FISA remains ripe for abuse. I will continue to work with my colleagues until FISA is reformed and the American people can once again live free of government spying."
