Larson Calls Out McConnell for Lack of Action on 1 Year Anniversary of Background Checks Bill Passage

Statement

Date: Feb. 27, 2020

Issues: Guns

Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the passage of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks of 2019 Act.

"Today marks one year of inaction from Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans. The majority of Americans support universal background checks. A year ago the House passed the Bipartisan Background Checks of 2019 Act (H.R. 8) to close the "gun-show loophole' and require all firearm transfers and sales to undergo a background check. This is commonsense legislation, but instead of doing what the American people want, Mitch McConnell is playing politics with people's lives and listening to NRA lobbyists.

"Just yesterday, there was another mass shooting in Milwaukee, and in my district gun violence continues to be a problem. When will enough be enough? This bill is the first step we urgently need to take to address the epidemic that is destroying our nation. Mitch McConnell needs to do his job!"
