Location: San Francisco, CA

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passage of S. 3503, legislation to help student veterans as schools close or move to online classes by giving VA the authority to continue paying GI Bill payments and monthly housing allowances at existing rates:

"Today, the House has moved swiftly to protect the education and economic security of more than 500,000 GI Bill students under threat during the coronavirus crisis, upholding our sacred pledge that, just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we leave no veteran behind when they come home.

"This bipartisan, urgently-needed fix will ensure that student veterans and their families who rely on the GI bill can continue to pursue a quality education as well as pay their bills, as more and more classes move online or campuses close during this public health emergency.

"During this difficult, uncertain time, the House will act swiftly on behalf of our heroes in uniform and will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our veterans receive the benefits and care they have earned and deserve."
