Swalwell Statement on Senate Impeachment Vote

Statement

Date: Feb. 5, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and of the House Committee on the Judiciary, issued the following statement today:

"Donald Trump put his personal interests over our national security and the integrity of our elections. No rigged trial--orchestrated by Trump and the jury foreperson, Leader Mitch McConnell-- changes the permanent stain of impeachment on Trump's presidency.

Impeaching Donald Trump ensured we held a corrupt president accountable and set a standard future presidents should be held to. But I also learned that standing up to Trump--from the courageous public servants who did so to my colleagues in Congress--stops his corruption. Ukraine didn't get their aid until we started an investigation. We must continue to check him whenever he acts corruptly."
