Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) grant totaling $237,600 to Newport, Tennessee:

"The Newport Housing Authority Resident Advisory Council (NHARAC) is doing great work, and I'm proud to see this investment that will help residents rise out of poverty and become self-sufficient. The HUD ROSS grant investment in Newport, Tennessee will go to support the NHARAC's efforts to help low-income families, the elderly and disabled individuals achieve a better quality of life. I want to thank HUD Secretary Ben Carson and President Trump for supporting local initiatives to improve the quality of life for residents in communities like ours."

Note: This grant is awarded through HUD's Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency -- Service Coordinators (ROSS-SC) program, which supports public housing agencies, local organizations and initiatives that provide resources and supportive services to public housing residents.
