Gov. Perry to Host Tyler Small Business Summit

Gov. Rick Perry will host a small business summit on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler. The Tyler Texas Small Business Summit, a day-long event, is designed to provide area small businesses with the tools for future success and opportunities for immediate growth.

"When small business prospers, Texas prospers," Perry said, noting that 98 percent of Texas businesses are small businesses. "I encourage local small business owners to take advantage of the opportunities at the summit, which will offer advice on a variety of topics, including how to raise the capital needed to meet operating needs of the business."

The summit will offer how-to advice from conventional lenders like banks and credit unions, the Small Business Administration and non-profit community microlenders. Representatives of each group will conduct a short seminar on how to get a loan, followed by a "Meet Your Lender" session where attendees will have the opportunity to discuss financing one-on-one with lenders.

The Tyler Small Business Summit also will provide area small businesses the opportunity to meet with state agency procurement officers in order to learn about and bid on state contracts.

Among the state agencies that will be at the event are the Department of Banking, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Texas Attorney General's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Education Agency, Texas Forest Service, Texas Legislative Council, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Texas Racing Commission, Texas State Technical College, Texas Youth Commission, UT Health Center at Tyler, UT North Texas, UT Systems, and UT Tyler.

Other summit seminars will assist area businesses with establishing Health Savings Accounts for their employees; finding and developing a capable workforce; and providing advice on starting and managing business growth.
