Rep. Fudge Statement on Administration's Latest Attack on Medicaid

Statement

Today,Rep. Marcia L. Fudge issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released a plan allowing states to turn Medicaid funding from the federal government into block grants:

"The Administration's plan to allow states to block grant Medicaid funding is an underhanded, back-door attempt to strip health care from vulnerable citizens. For decades, Medicaid has made significant progress in expanding access to health care for low-income families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities. By capping spending on Medicaid and enabling states to weaken the reach of the program, the plan will jeopardize medical access and benefits for millions of Americans in need, including those who gained coverage in states like Ohio as a result of Medicaid expansion. The Administration's cruel plan not only puts countless families at risk, it also flies in the face of congressional intent for the Medicaid program.

"This President has shown time and again that his top priorities are attacking affordable health care and gutting public assistance programs that give Americans a hand up. Whether it's cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, or affordable housing, this Administration has fully engaged in a war on people in need.

"After showering the wealthy with trillion-dollar tax cuts, the President is endangering the health and well-being of vulnerable Americans by forcing them to foot the bill. I will oppose the block granting of Medicaid and the Administration's continued assault on our families, friends, and loved ones when they need us most."

Yesterday, Rep. Fudge joined almost 30 of her House colleagues in sending a letter urging the Administration to reject the concept of block grants and implement Medicaid as Congress intended.
