U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to hear the Texas v. U.S. lawsuit, which could eliminate pre-existing conditions protections and gut the Affordable Care Act:

"For nearly a decade, the Affordable Care Act has been a vital lifeline for millions of Americans. But since entering office, President Trump and Republicans have been determined to undermine Americans' right to health care. This Trump-backed lawsuit would eliminate protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions, raise health care costs, and steal health care from millions.

"As this case proceeds to the Supreme Court, I will continue fighting to protect Americans' health care against Republican attacks."
