Congressman Harley Rouda Votes to Protect America's Wilderness

Today, Congressman Rouda voted to pass H.R. 2546, the Protecting America's Wilderness Act, which protects public lands and waters in California, Colorado, and Washington. The bill designates 1.3 million acres of wilderness and incorporates more than 1,000 river miles into the National Wild and Scenic River Systems (NWSRS).

Said Rouda, "California is home to world-renowned wilderness. Every year, millions travel to our state to take in the wonders of Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and millions of acres of protected land. I'm proud to continue John Muir's legacy of conservation and protect our tourism and recreational economy that supports 7.6 million American jobs."

H.R. 2546, the Protecting America's Wilderness Act would:

Combat climate change by protecting habitat and ecosystem services, such as clean water and air.

Safeguard pristine and remote federal lands and waters for current and future generations.

Increase community and firefighter safety by requiring federal land management agencies to work with local residents to develop coordinated fire management plans that prioritize reducing fuel near existing roads, infrastructure, and developed areas.

Increase economic benefits for local communities.
