Rep. Carson Statement on Transmission of Articles of Impeachment

Statement

Date: Jan. 15, 2020
Location: Washington D.C.

Congressman André Carson, a senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement on his vote today to transmit the House's Articles of Impeachment against President Trump to the Senate, and approve the appointment of House impeachment managers who will prosecute the case in the Senate trial.

"Over several months of intensive investigations, my House colleagues and I laid out clear evidence of misconduct committed by this President. And today, I voted to transmit these Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. I also fully support the seven House members who were selected by Speaker Pelosi to act as impeachment managers in the Senate trial. They are fine public servants whose commitment to our country and the ideals that make it great are well-documented.

"I hope my Senate colleagues, as they prepare to take the lead on this process, will be guided by the evidence before them. This is not about politics. It's about holding the President accountable to the Constitution he swore to uphold. It's about safeguarding our national security. It's about upholding the Rule of Law and pledging loyalty to principle over party. The Senate must do the right thing and conduct a real trial that relies on documents, witnesses, and facts. Anything less is an insult to our Democracy."
