Location: Syracuse, NY

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $11 Million in grants from United States Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD). These grants will be directed to local and state governments across Central New York and be used to provide affordable housing, suitable living environments, and to improve economic opportunities for vulnerable members of our community.

Last year, Rep. Katko led bipartisan efforts to advocate for robust funding for HUD's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and voted in support of legislation that increased funding for the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA). In addition, Rep. Katko welcomed HUD Secretary Ben Carson to Syracuse for a roundtable discussion with officials from the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County, and local housing organizations.

"Addressing poverty and improving economic conditions for Central New Yorkers has been a top priority for me since coming to Congress. It's the reason I have strongly advocated for increased funding for programs that address poverty and improve economy opportunity, and why today, I am proud to announce $11 million in HUD funding," said Rep. Katko. "With this critical funding, local governments and organizations across Central New York will be able to better address the needs of vulnerable members of our community and improve economic opportunity in Central New York."
