Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after President Trump signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) into law. McCaul joined President Trump at the White House for the signing ceremony today.

"For too long, our trade agreements have held the American economy and the American worker back. Today's signing of the USMCA marks a welcome new chapter in North American trade, especially in my home state of Texas.

"Trade with Mexico and Canada supports nearly one million Texas jobs and we export nearly $137 billion worth of goods and services to the two countries annually. By opening markets in Mexico and Canada to American agricultural and manufacturing products, the USMCA will be an economic boon for Texas workers, ranchers, farmers, and businesses. The USMCA also establishes new rules for digital trade and intellectual property that will empower Texas innovators to thrive in the digital economy.

"The USMCA is a victory for American workers, farmers, and ranchers. I applaud the President for successfully renegotiating and advancing this landmark agreement and it was an honor to join him as he signed the USMCA into law at the White House today. In combination with our current economic success and progress negotiating better agreements with other countries, the USMCA will keep our economy soaring."
