McCaul Applauds Signing of Phase One U.S. China Agreement

Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, applauded the signing of the phase one trade agreement between the United States and China today. McCaul attended the agreement signing ceremony at the White House.

"I am encouraged that the United States and China have signed a Phase 1 trade agreement. I hope this serves as a first step toward rebalancing our trade relationship and leveling the playing field in the China market for American companies. China's unfair trade practices harm American innovation, block market access, and distort markets globally.

"I was proud to be at the White House today for the signing of this historic agreement. The President's head-on approach to these negotiations is yielding results and we support his continued efforts to secure trade deals that benefit American and Texan workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses. In combination with the passage of the USMCA and the deal with Japan, this Administration is keeping its commitment to open export markets.

"As we look ahead to Phase 2 negotiations with China, it is critical to reach enforceable commitments that adequately address China's unfair practices including IP theft and corporate coercion, strengthen our economy, and result in a more reciprocal trade and investment relationship."
