After Governor Chris Sununu secured critical funding in the state budget and as part of the Governor's ongoing Next Generation Workforce Initiative to address the significant shortfall of nurses in New Hampshire, the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) has announced that it will once again be offering LPN Programs across the state. The first program will begin on January 21, 2020 at River Valley Community College (RVCC) in Claremont, NH, with other institutions within the CCSNH also planning to restart the program.

"Restarting our LPN programs will address a number of nursing needs, but especially at our skilled nursing homes," said Governor Chris Sununu. "LPN's are a critical element in the healthcare workforce and can serve as a first step on the pathway towards becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). Restarting the LPN program creates on-ramps and off-ramps for individuals' educational attainment and career development."

Working under the supervision of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and registered nurses, LPNs play a critical role in providing patients with high-quality care in a variety of settings that include long-term facilities, outpatient clinics, physician's offices, and acute care settings amongst others. They also serve as a crucial component of multifaceted healthcare teams that work collaboratively to deliver the best care possible for patients.

Individuals interested in the LPN program at RVCC must have successfully passed all four sections of the nursing entrance exam, ATI's TEAS, have had high school or college chemistry, and must submit their high school transcript, GED or HiSet in order for the application to be complete. Prospective students are also required to be a licensed nursing assistant (LNA) in order to apply to the program. Interested students that do not meet these prerequisites are encouraged to speak with a RVCC advisor about ways to achieve eligibility. Classes start January 21, 2020.
