Tonko Calls for Testimony of Relevant Witnesses, Fair Impeachment Trial

Statement

Date: Jan. 27, 2020
Location: Albany, NY

In light of recent reports that former National Security Advisor John Bolton witnessed President Trump draw direct connections between military aid to Ukraine and the President's demands that the Ukrainian president announce sham investigations into his political rivals, Congressman Paul D. Tonko issued the following statement:

"The facts revealed through the House impeachment process make an overwhelming, compelling and incriminating case that President Donald Trump endangered America's national security and our electoral integrity to benefit his own personal, political agenda. He has publicly confessed as much and even bragged about obstructing Congress from our Constitutional responsibility to hold him accountable. If the Senate refuses to hear directly from John Bolton after the bombshell reporting of his firsthand knowledge of the President's wrongdoing, it would be a profound betrayal of their oath to protect and defend the Constitution and the nation we are all sworn to serve."
