Fudge: Trump Budget Illustrates Administration's Cruel Priorities

Statement

Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (OH-11), chair of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition, Oversight, and Department Operations, issued the following statement Wednesday criticizing the Trump Administration's desired cuts to Federal anti-hunger programs, including nearly $182 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, in its FY2021 budget.

"Going to such lengths to gut programs like SNAP, once again, reveals the Administration's insensitivity to the needs of the people the office is entrusted to serve," said Chairwoman Fudge. "The proposed budget is nothing more than an assault on vulnerable Americans, particularly people in marginalized communities. Eliminating programs that ensure seniors have access to food, recipients receive nutrition education, and next generation anti-hunger advocates are trained will have devastating effects on the quality of life of countless citizens."

"Let's be clear, this is not merely a policy document. This is the Administration telling all of us through its proposals what it thinks of the working class in our country. Thankfully we are smart enough to see this document for exactly what it is: the cruel priorities of a White House more worried about delivering conservative ideological wins than helping people in need."
