Governor Bullock Celebrates Adoption with Montana Families

Statement

Date: Nov. 26, 2019
Issues: Family

Governor Steve Bullock today joined child welfare advocates and Montana families to celebrate the adoption of two children at the 23rd Annual Celebrate Adoption ceremony

"In celebration of National Adoption Awareness month, we recognize the two children adopted today and the hundreds adopted this year who now have permanent and loving homes," Governor Bullock said. "There is no greater gift than a forever home and I congratulate all the families who are helping Montana kids to reach their full potential and realize their dreams."

The ceremony celebrated the adoption of two children and is part of National Adoption Awareness Month. It is co-sponsored annually by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), Catholic Social Services, and Wendy's Wonderful Kids. The theme this year was "Joining Hearts and Families'.

The Honorable Mike Menahan, District Court Judge Mike Menehan, with help from Sylvester and Tweety Bird, presided over the ceremony. Attorney Bill Driscoll represented both families. Other public adoption ceremonies in the state also took place this month in Billings, Great Falls, and Missoula.

During state fiscal year 2019, the DPHHS Child and Family Services Division helped facilitate over 450 adoptions statewide.

"We know there are many amazing parents who want to provide a child with a forever home, and it's our goal to help make the process as smooth as possible," DPHHS Director Sheila Hogan said.
