Burgess Votes Against the Resolution Appointing Managers for the Senate Impeachment Trial

Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health released the following statement after he voted no to the resolution appointing House Managers for the Senate Impeachment Trial.

"This morning, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the managers for the Senate Impeachment Trial," Burgess said. "And once again the Speaker allowed partisan politics to seize control of this governing body.

"As President Trump signs a significant trade agreement with China, leveling the field for American businesses abroad, the nation watched as the House of Representatives continued its strictly partisan work to remove a duly elected president.

"Since the start of the impeachment process, Speaker Pelosi and leaders of the majority party expressed a sense of urgency, but they waited 30 days to send the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate effectively denying the President the chance to acquit himself.

"The nation watched as once again the House of Representatives failed to put Americans first, but sought to distract from the lack of solutions we have provided this Congress.

"It is still my desire that as the impeachment process enters the trial period, we will be able to bridge the divide created by this process and be able to come back together and heal the wounds caused by this partisan exercise."
