Issues: Trade

U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) today joined President Donald Trump for the signing of the United States--Mexico--Canada (USMCA) trade agreement.

"Workers, farmers and families in North Carolina have been hurt by unfair trade deals for far too long -- and unfortunately partisan games in Washington made it even longer. Today's signing of the USMCA trade deal by President Trump is a historic win that sets our state and community up for a more prosperous future," Walker said. "The USMCA will bring $68 billion in economic growth and thousands of jobs to our country while expanding international customers for our made in North Carolina products."

USMCA is a mutually beneficial win for North American workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses. The agreement creates a more balanced, reciprocal trade that supports high-paying jobs for Americans and grows the North American economy.

According to the Business Roundtable, nearly 400,000 jobs in North Carolina are supported by U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico.

More than one in five North Carolina jobs depend upon international trade.

In 2018, North Carolina goods exports were $32.8 billion, an increase of 31 percent from its export level in 2008. These numbers made North Carolina the 15th largest state exporter of goods in 2018.
