Rep. Wild Statement on Iranian Missile Attacks

Statement

Date: Jan. 8, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement in response to an Iranian missile attack on two Iraqi bases housing U.S. forces:

"Like all Americans, I followed the events of last night with deep concern.

"I condemn the Iranian missile attacks on Iraqi bases hosting U.S. forces in Anbar Province and Erbil. I am deeply thankful that no American troops or Iraqi civilians lost their lives in these attacks.

"Diplomacy must be conducted deliberately, and the actions of the past few days have only heightened volatility in the region. Now is the time to defuse and de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran. That must be our top priority.

"My focus is on our men and women in uniform serving across the Middle East and around the globe. Let us honor their extraordinary sacrifices by acting carefully and strategically--remembering always the incalculable costs of war for them and their families."
