U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on President Trump's proposal to gut Medicaid coverage:

"The Trump administration's proposal is a blatant attempt to further erode health care coverage and is an unacceptable attack on Americans' right to health care. The Trump proposal will restrict enrollment and limit care -- putting at risk the lives of vulnerable patients Medicaid was created to protect."
