Congressman Mitchell to vote against War Powers resolution

Statement

Date: Jan. 9, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement opposing the Iran War Powers resolution:

"President Trump's strike against Qassem Soleimani was tactically sound and well within his powers as Commander in Chief. Today's resolution will undermine the ability of the President and U.S. Armed Forces to respond to dynamic and credible threats to our service members in the Middle East and is yet another politically expedient Democrat attack against President Trump.

For these reasons, I will vote against the Iran War Powers resolution.

I am committed to re-asserting Congress' role -- which has atrophied over multiple administrations -- in establishing a long-term military strategy in the Middle East. Unfortunately, today's vote does not help define what military success in that part of the world looks like."
