Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on the Passage of Impeachment Articles Against President Trump

Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2019

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump:

"Today is a solemn day. The President abused the powers of his office, betrayed the public trust and undermined America's national security by pressuring a foreign government to interfere in our elections for his own political gain. Damning evidence has been presented about the President's misconduct in office, and it is clear to me that the President has committed an impeachable offense. As a Member of Congress, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. While I did not come to Congress to impeach the President of the United States, sadly the President's misconduct has left us no choice. These two articles of impeachment were necessary to defend our Constitution, protect our democracy and hold this President accountable."
