U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5430, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act in a 385-41 vote:

"American trade impacts every North Carolina business and family. That's why we just passed USMCA today, a trade deal that will protect and expand American jobs and find new international customers for our made in North Carolina products. This historic trade deal should have been passed months ago, and the loss of that partisan drag is immeasurable; however, I am glad we have closed out the decade by passing a trade deal that will prepare our workers, farmers, and employers for a prosperous future."

USMCA is a mutually beneficial win for North American workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses. The agreement creates more balanced, reciprocal trade that supports high-paying jobs for Americans and grows the North American economy.

According to the Business Roundtable, nearly 400,000 jobs in North Carolina are supported by U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico.

More than one in five North Carolina jobs depend upon international trade.

In 2018, North Carolina goods exports were $32.8 billion, an increase of 31 percent from its export level in 2008. These numbers made North Carolina the 15th largest state exporter of goods in 2018.

According to the House Committee on Ways and Means, USMCA will provide more than $68 billion in new national economic activity and 176,000 new American jobs.
