Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), released the following statement after voting against H.Res. 798, a resolution appointing and authorizing managers for the impeachment trial of Donald John Trump, President of the United States:

"House Democrats pushed through a partisan impeachment sham last fall under the pretense this was an urgent threat, and it took 28 days for Speaker Pelosi to finally decide to send the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate for a trial. I voted against this hypocritical resolution. From the beginning, House Democrats did everything they could to further their narrative that President Trump committed a crime. They rushed to pass impeachment articles without evidence to support their claims; they held numerous closed door hearings; denied Republicans the right to call witnesses; and prevented the president's counsel from cross-examining witnesses -- all of which was allowed during previous impeachment proceedings. I am glad leader McConnell rejected the Speaker's demands and will instead proceed with a fair trial process. I hope when the trial concludes, President Trump is exonerated of the false accusations lobbed by House Democrats, and as a nation we can move past this farce once and for all."
