Rep. Holding Votes to Approve USMCA

Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Rep. George Holding (NC-02) released the following statement after voting to approve the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:

"USMCA is a huge win for folks in North Carolina and across the nation. It will empower businesses of all sizes, across all industries, to grow and create jobs. It will supercharge the digital economy and provide our farmers and manufacturers with much-needed certainty and market access. And it will ensure American jobs are protected from outsourcing.

"The original agreement included robust protections for cutting-edge biologic drugs which would have ensured the rights of American innovators are protected abroad without impacting the price of drugs. Unfortunately, at the last moment, Democrats stripped these safeguards from the final agreement - effectively kneecapping the dedicated scientists, doctors, and manufacturers working around the clock to develop new cures and save more lives.

"Still - taken together - this is an excellent agreement and I am proud to vote for it. I want to commend Ambassador Lighthizer for his tireless work negotiating a deal that truly delivers on the promise of free, fair and reciprocal trade."
