Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution to limit President Trump's military actions regarding Iran. This resolution reiterates that only Congress can declare war and affirms that Congress has not authorized the use of military force against Iran. Hence, it states that if no further Congressional action is taken, the Administration's military hostilities with regard to Iran must end.

"Last week, without consulting Congress, the Trump Administration conducted a provocative and disproportionate military airstrike targeting high-level Iranian military officials," said Congresswoman Johnson. "This action endangered our servicemembers, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran. Since then, the President has made clear that he does not have a coherent strategy to keep the American people safe, achieve de-escalation with Iran and ensure stability in the region."

"As a Member of Congress, my first responsibility is to keep Texans and the American people safe," continued Congresswoman Johnson. "I have serious concerns about the Administration's decision to engage in hostilities, its lack of strategy moving forward and its refusal to consult Congress or respect the war powers granted to us by the Constitution. That is why I joined my colleagues in the House to pass a War Powers Resolution to limit the President's military actions regarding Iran. Congress has a solemn responsibility to protect American lives and values. The Administration must work with Congress to advance an immediate, effective de-escalatory strategy that prevents further violence. America and the world cannot afford war."
