Byrne on CR: Impeachment Focus is Undermining Military Readiness

Statement

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the House passed another Continuing Resolution (CR) to once again extend last fiscal year's funding levels to avoid a government shutdown.

Congressman Byrne said: "Democrats are so focused on impeaching President Trump that they've neglected to perform Congress's core responsibility of funding the government on time. By once again failing to provide the certainty of stable funding, Congress is undermining the Defense Department's planning efforts and crippling America's military readiness. Short-term funding bills are a bad way of doing business, and the American people and our military deserve better."

Byrne voted against today's CR to extend funding through December 20, 2019. Last fiscal year's funding levels were previously extended through Thursday, November 21. The Senate is expected to pass this CR before Thursday's deadline.
