Lowey Votes to Impeach President Donald John Trump

Statement

Date: Dec. 18, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

Today, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17/Rockland-Westchester), Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement following her vote to impeach the 45th President of the United States, Donald John Trump:

"The impeachment inquiry into President Trump has led to two conclusions: the president sought foreign assistance to influence the 2020 presidential election and went to great lengths to obstruct Congress during the investigations. I supported the articles of impeachment based on these two conclusions grounded in fairness and truth and with consideration for the historic ramifications of this vote.

"This impeachment process is not a political one; that is what elections are for. This is a constitutional and legal process that is meeting its only logical conclusion. These impeachable offenses, along with those revealed in the Mueller report, have endangered the integrity of our elections and the very democratic principles on which our nation was founded.

"Donald Trump is not fit to serve as president. Make no mistake, Republicans turning a blind eye to the president's misdeeds won't hide the threats of his actions to our democracy."
