Rep. Williams Votes Against Ex-Im Reauthorization

Statement

Date: Nov. 15, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today released the following statement after voting against the partisan United States Export Finance Agency Act of 2019 (H.R. 4863):

"Under no circumstances should the taxpayer-backed Export-Import Bank finance projects that directly benefit the Chinese Communist Party. This partisan deal does little to help alleviate taxpayer liability and increases a federal government role that the private sector is better equipped to handle -- it's crony capitalism. China is our biggest economic competitor, and we must use every tool at our disposal to combat their growing global influence."

H.R. 4863 would reauthorize the Export-Import Bank for ten years and increases its funding level by 30%. The bill would not prevent Chinese-owned companies from receiving support from the bank, and continues to crowd out the private sector from export financing.
