DelBene Statement on Passage of USMCA

Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.
Issues: Trade

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) made the following statement:

"I am pleased that the House of Representatives has approved the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a deal which will support our region's farmers, workers, and families.

"This new agreement includes important provisions that will help our region's dairy farmers, who for years have struggled to export their products to Canada. It also eliminates a rule in British Columbia that requires imported wines to be placed in a separate part of grocery stores.

"This is also the first U.S. trade agreement that has a digital trade chapter, including important provisions on data localization, cross-border data flows and other important requirements that preserve a free and open internet, and support good-paying jobs in our region.

"While passing USMCA will provide our farmers and businesses with some certainty, the Administration needs to work to open up new markets for high-quality made-in America exports."
