Statement

Date: Dec. 3, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

Today, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after leaders from Enbridge Energy, pipeline contractors, and construction unions signed a Project Labor Agreement to ensure Minnesota's skilled workers will be hired to construct the Line 3 replacement pipeline.

"We are overdue to replace the current pipeline. The Line 3 replacement project will create thousands of jobs in our communities and will continue to deliver low-cost energy to Americans. Thanks to this Project Labor Agreement between LiUNA of Minnesota and North Dakota, the United Association of Plumber and Pipefitters, the International Union of Operating Engineers, Teamsters International, and Enbridge, these jobs will be filled by hardworking Minnesotans with the strongest labor protections in the world. Good paying union jobs are vital to Minnesota's success, so I am thankful to our labor partners and this company for making this commitment and I look forward to beginning construction on this replacement pipeline soon."

Dan Olson, the International Representative and Business Manager of Local 1091 in Duluth and Superior stated, "In Superior, where I live and serve on the city council, we've put skilled union members to work replacing aging steel with a safe, modern pipeline. We look forward to doing the same in Minnesota next year under a Project Labor Agreement that will ensure the Line 3 Replacement Pipeline is built with skilled labor, creates well-paid jobs, and allows local residents to pursue construction careers."
