Foster Statement on Articles of Impeachment

Statement

Date: Dec. 10, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee introduced two Articles of Impeachment against President Donald J. Trump:

"I support the Articles of Impeachment against President Trump that have been introduced by the Judiciary Committee, and I intend to vote for them on the Floor of the House of Representatives next week.

"After careful consideration of the evidence presented over months during the impeachment inquiry, I believe the facts are clear: President Trump abused the power of his office to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political opponent to benefit his re-election campaign. This represents a gross violation of his oath of office and the public trust.

"In addition, it is indisputable that the President willfully ignored subpoenas lawfully issued by Congress pursuant to the exercise of its constitutional power of impeachment. These actions, if allowed to stand, would render the President immune from oversight and effectively above the law.

"The President is not above the law. It is time for Congress to fulfill its constitutional obligation to hold him accountable for abusing his power and obstructing Congress."
