Congressman Chandler Decries Budget Cuts on House Floor

Bill hurts Kentuckians who can afford it the least

WASHINGTON (November 10, 2005) Today the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a budget reconciliation package. Congressman Ben Chandler spoke on the House floor decrying H.R. 4241.

Programs such as Medicaid, Student loans, nutrition programs, family and child support programs, and rural and agriculture programs will be drastically cut. The budget reconciliation package adds to the deficit, gives more tax cuts to the wealthy few and hurts Kentuckians who can afford it the least.

"This reconciliation package presents a simple choice," said Congressman Chandler. "Either care for the poor, sick and hungry and help students attend college or cut taxes for the wealthy and give yet another handout to the oil industry."
