Senator Fischer Meets Angels in Adoption Honorees from Nebraska

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Family

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) welcomed the Bush family of Lincoln to her Senate office. Jake and Lauren Bush will be recognized this evening as 2019 Angels in Adoption Honorees from Nebraska for their outstanding work raising their two foster children, brothers Sterling and Payton.

"It was very moving to meet with the Bush family today and I was touched by their story. After Jake and Lauren fostered then nine-year-old Sterling, they bonded instantly and later adopted him. Soon after adopting, the couple learned that Sterling's younger brother, Payton, was set to be placed hours away in western Nebraska. Jake and Lauren decided to adopt Payton as well, and all four now live together as a forever family in such a loving home. I am so glad that they will be receiving the recognition they deserve as Angels in Adoption Honorees," said Senator Fischer.

The Angels in Adoption program is coordinated by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, which raises public awareness about the positive difference adoption makes in the lives of children and inspires others to consider adoption and fostering.

Each year, members of Congress have the opportunity to nominate extraordinary individuals who have chosen to help improve the lives of orphans and foster children. The Bush family was chosen after being nominated by Senator Fischer. The ceremony will take place this evening in Washington, D.C.

Senator Fischer is a co-sponsor of a resolution recognizing November as National Adoption Month and the Saturday before Thanksgiving as National Adoption Day.
