Fleischmann Takes Action to Stop Robocalls

Statement

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03) released the following statement upon the House passage of S. 151, the Pallone -Thune TRACED Act, legislation focused on ending robocalls:

"Aggravating robocalls are a persistent problem in East Tennessee and across the nation -- scamming consumers and putting personal information at risk. Most Americans are familiar with the Do Not Call Registry which was previously utilized as a mechanism of defense against annoying robocalls, but unfortunately fraudulent robocallers have derived loopholes and workarounds to this barrier, including spoofing phone numbers. This legislation takes vital measures to implement updated consumer protections by creating a national system focused on caller authentication, enabling consumers to block menacing calls, and equipping the FCC with updated resources to stop the onslaught of robocalls. I am committed to doing all I can to ensure that when East Tennesseans answer a phone call, it is a call they want to receive and the caller is who they say they are."

Congressman Fleischmann previously voted for the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act which passed the House in July. The Senate passed the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act. The bill passed by the House today is a combination of the separate legislation passed in both chambers.
