Senator Collins Receives Congressional Champion Award from ConservAmerica for Leadership in Conservation & Clean Energy Initiatives

Last night, U.S. Senator Susan Collins was honored with the Congressional Champion of 2019 Award from ConservAmerica for her leadership in conservation and clean energy initiatives at the organization's annual dinner.

"ConservAmerica's hard work and dedication are helping to preserve our nation's stunning beauty for the enjoyment of all and to support America's economy," said Senator Collins. "I am grateful for this recognition and will continue my long-standing efforts to support and strengthen vital conservation programs, such as the Land and Water Conservation Fund."

Earlier this year, legislation to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) was enacted with Senator Collins' strong support. In April, Senator Collins joined a bipartisan group in introducing legislation to permanently fund LWCF at $900 million per year. LWCF has only been funded at its maximum authorization level of $900 million twice in its history.

The Better Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Act, legislation introduced by Senator Collins to help advance energy storage technologies and make our nation's grid more reliable and resilient, passed the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in September.

Last month, Senator Collins supported the resolution of disapproval to block the Administration's repeal of the Clean Power Plan. Senator Collins also recently joined Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) in introducing the Super Pollutants Act, legislation that aims to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs). Additionally, Senators Collins and Murphy sent a letter to the EPA urging the agency to reinstate standards for methane that were established during the Obama Administration.

To address the growing maintenance backlog at our 419 national parks, Senator Collins cosponsored the Restore Our Parks Act, legislation to address this deficit by using funding from on and offshore energy development.
