Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) hosted a community forum honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans in California's 33rd district. The event was held in order to establish a greater understanding between local veterans and our community. Non-veterans attended, listened and learned from veterans who shared their stories. Over 100 people attended the event, which featured stories from Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine veterans who served in a variety of combat and noncombat missions including during the Korean, Gulf, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraqi conflicts, among others. Among the veterans who spoke was Dr. Steven Braverman, an Army Physician who served for nearly 30 years and now heads the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

"Serving in the Air Force changed my life and founded my deep admiration and respect for America's servicemembers. I think this event is a wonderful way to allow our broader community to hear about our veterans' service and sacrifice. It is one of my favorite events of the year because it enables us to honor our veterans by hearing their stories from their service to our country. We owe them a great debt of gratitude for keeping us safe and fighting for our nation's values."
