Statement

Date: Nov. 22, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

U.S. Congressman Jody Hice (R-GA) released the following statement after the passage of H.R. 307, the Preserving America's Battlefield Act in the House Natural Resources Committee. Sponsored by Representative Hice, this legislation would re-authorize one of our Nation's most successful federal matching grants program for 10 years, including grants supporting site restoration and educational resources for high-priority battlefield sites.

"Battlefield sites play a formative role in American history and serve as a reminder to current and future generations of the sacrifices that were made on behalf of our freedom," said Congressman Jody Hice. "In my own district, the American Battlefield Protection Program assisted in securing 180-acres of battlegrounds that surrounds the site of Kettle Creek Battlefield, transforming hallowed grounds into educational tourist destination. With the committee passage of the Preserving America's Battlefield Act, I look forward to seeing this legislation move to the House floor with strong, continued bipartisan support."
