E&c Subcommittee Announces Hearing on Environmental Justice

Press Release

Date: Nov. 13, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, November 20, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building entitled "Building a 100 Percent Clean Economy: The Challenges Facing Frontline Communities."

"Across America, pollution has long disproportionately impacted low-income communities and communities of color. The climate crisis is only deepening this inequality and increasing risks for frontline communities," said Pallone and Tonko. "As we work to combat this growing crisis, we must prioritize environmental justice. We look forward to hearing from impacted communities next week to not only talk about the global climate crisis, but also how America's cities and towns have been experiencing cumulative impacts from toxics such as coal ash, ethylene oxide, factory farm runoff, and much more."

The hearing is the sixth hearing in the Committee's climate change series aimed at developing comprehensive legislation to achieve a 100 percent clean economy by 2050. Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witness list, testimony and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
