Last week, Representative Ross Spano (Florida-15) joined Representative Mike Rogers (Alabama-3) and other lawmakers in the Rio Grande Valley to get a firsthand look at efforts to secure the border.

"Thousands of people illegally cross the border each year, from men, women and children seeking asylum to illegal drug traffickers," said Spano. "This influx of people has not only created a humanitarian crisis but a national security crisis. I firmly believe that the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement personnel are doing an outstanding job under stressful conditions. I got a firsthand look at the progress on the border wall, and while it's not the sole solution to the illegal immigration problem, CBP and ICE officials have said that it will help tremendously in curtailing the problem."

Highlights of the trip include: a visit to the Port of Hildago, a check point on the U.S. border with Mexico, a meeting with the Army National Guard, who is providing support for drug and weapons interdiction at the Southern border, and a briefing from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials at Homeland Security Offices in McAllen, Texas.
