Lipinski Statement on Passage of Legislation Imposing Sanctions Against Turkey

Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) released the following statement today in support of H.R. 4695:

"This week members on both sides of the aisle stood together in strong support of legislation authorizing sanctions against Turkey for its invasion of northern Syria. The sanctions prevent arms sales for use in Syria, hold accountable those committing human rights abuses, and penalize Turkish financial institutions involved in perpetuating President Erdogan's corrupt practices. What's happening in northern Syria is a humanitarian crisis and President Trump should have heeded the advice of his military advisors before he decided to withdraw U.S. troops in the region. The House made clear with an overwhelming majority vote that we will not sit by idly when the President unilaterally takes military action that threatens the safety of our allies and puts U.S. national security at risk."
