Impeachment Resolution Didn't Change How This Investigation Has Been Conducted

Statement

Representative Scott Tipton (CO-03) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Res. 660 regarding the ongoing impeachment inquiry lead by Speaker Nancy Pelosi:

"A handful of House Democrats led by Chairman Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi have carried out a closed-door investigation that was never voted on or authorized and has restricted access to what should be a transparent proceeding available to all Americans. Regardless of who is in charge, I believe it is critical that the process is transparent and fair, and that has not been the case, which raises concerns about the credibility of what little is intentionally leaked out of the closed proceedings. It's worth noting that what they have considered so far is all unclassified material, so there is no reason why this should not be taking place in the public eye instead of in secret. Instead of correcting course in favor of transparency and fairness, the Speaker is doubling down on their unprecedented closed-door effort to impeach the President without ever requiring her caucus to take a vote on launching formal impeachment proceedings.

The impeachment resolution considered on the floor this week doesn't provide Republicans on Capitol Hill or in the White House the same due process rights that have been afforded to the minority party in past presidential impeachment inquiries; it doesn't give equal subpoena power to Republicans and denies the administration a voice in the evidentiary process. This resolution keeps the American people in the dark and maintains the hyper-partisan, secretive process Speaker Pelosi favors."
