Rogers Leads Lawmakers to Rio Grande Valley

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, led a group of Republican lawmakers to McAllen, Texas to get a firsthand look at the efforts of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to secure the U.S. border with Mexico. Reps. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.), Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Ann Wagner (R-Mo.), Ross Spano (R-Fla.) and Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) joined Rogers on the trip.

"We stop more drugs and people in the Rio Grande Valley than anywhere else on the border. Our group saw firsthand the realities our law enforcement faces as they work to secure our southwest border," Rogers said. "Fortunately, progress is well underway on more than 100 miles of border wall system in the region, including updating inadequate barriers and filling gaps in existing wall, making it harder to sneak in. Instead of wasting time on impeachment, Congress should focus on ensuring DHS, CBP and ICE have the resources and authorities they need to stop criminal activity at the border."
