Issues: Energy

We should all support the development of cleaner energy sources. It should be a goal to clean up our polluted air and bayous by eliminating industrial pollution at its source and using waste products productively and conservatively. Building a clean energy future means that new means need to be approached safely and responsibly, not with unfettered restrictions that put the community in danger.

Energy independence puts Texas in the driver's seat to pursue affordable and efficient energy solutions that will benefit us all, reduce the burden on our communities, and responsibly help clean and protect our environment. We can create a cleaner and stronger community by utilizing all available resources to develop energy alternatives and investing in energy independent technology that will lead us forward in preserving our neighborhoods and its natural resources. With this new wave of investment in energy independent technology will come new jobs that will keep our families and neighbors employed throughout District 148.

It is our moral obligation to be good stewards of the natural beauty and resources of our community and we should base our environmental policy on common-sense principles such as: believing that people, not machines, are the most valuable resource and human health and safety are the most important measurements of success, not bottom line dollar signs.

Our goal should be to have neighborhoods, environmentalists, and government officials working together to protect resources while at the same time ensuring the vitality of local economies. We were all once forced to believe that we had to make a choice between having a great local economy and protecting the environment, but we now know that this is just not true.

We have a duty to protect the earth and our neighborhoods, but I am opposed to raising the price of electricity for our families for the sake of special interest so-called green solutions. Not one dollar should be directed toward green schemes from the people and families of this district. Our poverty rate in House District 148 is already too high, there is no reason to make it worse for the benefit of special interest.
