Congressman Rogers' Statement Against the House Impeachment Vote

Statement

Date: Oct. 31, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) released the following statement against the House Democrats' vote to continue partisan impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

"The Democrats' impeachment charades are simply revealing that they are grasping at straws to steal an election decided by voters in 2016. Chairman Schiff and his colleagues have conducted closed-door hearings and leaked selective information that only fits their narrative, and this vote by congressional Democrats is simply an extension of their tainted, partisan impeachment process to unseat President Trump. The resolution fails to give the minority the same rights present during the Clinton impeachment and fails to offer the same due process protections given to Presidents Nixon and Clinton.

"While Speaker Pelosi rams through unprecedented rules to advance her political agenda, important legislation continues to lay dormant without action, including pay raises for our military, reducing prescription drug prices and addressing the humanitarian crisis at our southern border. It's time to get back to work for the Amercian people and let their voices be heard in the Presidential election one year from now."

Republican attempts to increase transparency in the process were rejected by Democrats, including requirements for Chairman Schiff to publicly release the transcripts of all depositions, transfer all records to the Judiciary Committee, and make all records available at least 72 hours prior to the Judiciary Committee considering any articles of impeachment.
