Rep. Grijalva Votes to End Trump's Fake Emergency

Statement

Date: Sept. 27, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Today, the House of Representatives voted on a resolution to end President Trump's emergency declaration that resulted in the seizure of Department of Defense funds to construct a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. After voting in support of the resolution, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva issued the following statement:

"Trump's fake emergency declaration was nothing more than an attempt to circumvent Congress after we refused to spend taxpayer dollars on his ridiculous vanity wall. Since then, he's stolen billions of dollars in military funding to bulldoze through precious desert habitats and further militarize border communities under his fake national emergency.

"Trump created this crisis through his dehumanizing immigration policies. It's dangerous, unconstitutional, and damaging to the borderlands and the people who live there."
