U.S. Rep. Kirkpatrick Responds to President Trump's Oval Office Border Address: Fictional Narrative

Statement

Date: Sept. 26, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Kirkpatrick issued the following statement this morning in response to President Trump's Tuesday evening address over government shutdown over border wall funding.

"The President has been unable to deliver his one campaign promise, so last night he cried wolf in the name of security," said Rep. Kirkpatrick. "Southern Arizonans know the crisis at the border isn't because of a lack of wall, it's the divisive political rhetoric, it's the inhumane policies of separating families, putting children in cages and it's our broken immigration system.

Southern Arizonans want a commitment to border security through reasonable actions, like passing immigration reform, implementing stronger vetting processes, investing in intelligence technologies, improving our port of entry and hiring more case workers and legal counsel personnel.

We see through the President's fictional narrative. Southern Arizonans know that shutting down the government over a wall hurts us, fuels hostility towards immigrants and asylum seekers and makes our country less secure."
