At Americas Unidas Multicultural Senior Center, Gottheimer Updates Seniors on Protecting Social Security and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs

On Friday, October 25, 2019, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) visited the Americas Unidas Multicultural Senior Center to speak to seniors about his efforts to help lower prescription drug costs, lower taxes, and protect Social Security and Medicare for all senior citizens.

"Seniors are disproportionately affected by rising out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs and health care. That's why been fighting hard against attempts to gut the Affordable Care Act, and why I've supported reducing out-of-pocket costs for Medicare beneficiaries and increasing transparency and market competition to lower prescription drug costs," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). "In Congress, I have fought to help seniors save their hard-earned money for retirement, so they can afford to stay here in New Jersey."

Last year, New Jersey lost a larger percentage of its population than any other state in the country. Too many of our seniors are burdened by high prescription drug prices, expensive co-pays, higher taxes, low Social Security payments, and predatory scammers. They need our help. Gottheimer recently introduced the Senior Security Act to protect seniors from scammers so that they may safeguard their hard-earned savings.

Addressing the group at the Americas Unidas Multicultural Senior Center on Friday, Gottheimer continued, "I know that by working together, in Congress, across the aisle, and in our communities, we can make New Jersey an even better state. We need to help our seniors stay here and make sure that safety nets are in place for seniors when they retire. Gottheimer continued to stay after to discuss specific issues that each constituent was having ranging from healthcare costs to social security benefits.
